Las Cruces, New Mexico 2013

Las Cruces, New Mexico 2013

The four hour drive through New Mexico was enjoyable because of the nice weather and scenery.  Calvary Baptist Church provided a great place to park with 30amp service!

Leaving for Las, Cruces I was pretty excited, considering this was the first Resurrection Sunday for me being on the road and how Las Cruces actually means, “The Crosses!”  That’s really awesome because this town has been on the schedule for at least six months and I did not know what it meant nor that I would be there then!  This reminds me of the first stop along the journey which was in Cumberland, KY and the State Park that I stayed in the first night is called, “Kingdom Come!” Both events were awe inspiring to me.  So back to being excited, you may remember that I wrote asking for prayer so that I would have more boldness to preach the gospel in public.  Well, the week prior to Las Cruces I was blessed to preach the gospel in a public park.  So the next hope I had was to preach the Cross at the place called Las, Cruces the week we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ!  The stage was set and with high hopes I went to bed.  In the middle of the night I awoke with nagging pain in my upper back and left shoulder.  I did not sleep well that first night and throughout the week it was much the same.  As a result it was a low keyed and disappointing week.  But time and again as I flew the banner of the Lord Jesus Christ in and around town the Lord sent encouragement my way.  As I drove motorist blew their horn, waved and gave a thumbs up more often than any place before.

New Mexico along; The Journey 50 States One True Story JESUS! 2013

On Friday I met some friends who invited me to attend service with them that evening.  During the service we reflected on the last supper and had communion.  Thanks, Mesilla Park Community Church.

During Sunday service at Calvary Baptist Church I met a dear couple who invited me over for lunch.  Wow what a blessing. The meal was great and the fellowship so sweet. Both my dear friends have spent most of their lives as mission workers.  More than 30 years as Wycliffe Bible Translators and having been to many countries around the world.  Even more humbling is the fact that they plan to leave again in September.  I was deeply humbled by their testimonies and so encouraged by their example and willingness to continue on past, what’s commonly known as retirement years.

That kind of wraps up the week in Las, Cruses but instead of leaving so short let me bring to your attention something I wrote 2.8.2013;

Dear Brethren,

I hope we all will take a serious look at the issues that occupy so much of our energy, resources, time and affections.  The enemy of our souls tempts us every day and in numerous ways.  I think we lose sight of that oh’ so much!  The deceiver has us chasing many, many vain glories like; materialism, the fountain of youth, prestige and how many; “good causes” are championed in vain?  How about being deceived into thinking we are pleasing the Lord Jesus Christ?

Hello!  How long do we regurgitate the same things over and over again?  How long will we run on the treadmill and get off to jump back on?  Do you get the point?  No, I mean do you really see what’s going on?

Please stop and consider your actions!  What are you habitually doing, talking about and being spent for?  Are those actions both in word and deed for the name’s sake of the Lord Jesus Christ and the furtherance of The Gospel?  How about are the same for the encouragement and building up of the brethren?

Do we evaluate report and encourage resistance against things that God has told us would happen?  Shall our testimony before the world deny the power of the Holy Spirit in that we continue in bondage as loving the things of the world?  Do we build up one another by being sympathetic of ones sin and not call them to come up higher?

Look at and reflect on your actions and the patterns of your life.

Who appoints all kings and rulers in this world to serve His purposes? (Vote and Move on. We have a KING).  Will injustice decrease before Christ’s return? (Everyone needs to be Born Again).  Will immorality decrease? (Cut off and cast every ungodly thing from among you and your Household for You can only serve one master).

Jesus has called us out of the world to represent Him to the lost and dying world.  Every born again believer “IS” the Salt and the Light of the World. The measure of time that God has given each of us will shape eternity for you, me and the souls of others.  Time past cannot be regained and the Bible says we all will give an account to God.  Our assignment is:  The Gospel.

The call is to take action! Let us repent that we may obtain God’s mercy and forgiveness!  We must be in the Word and Doers of the Word!  We must be diligent in asking, seeking and knocking until the Holy Spirit overtakes and sets us free from the bondage of seeking vain glories!   O’ that we may be spent in honor of; “the One who died for us and rose again.”  Amen

If this does not prick your heart or in other words seems ridiculous to you:  Then I hope you will seek the Lord while He may be found because time is running out.  God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness by the man Christ Jesus!

Jesus said, “Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”(Matt 7:21)

I hope that writing these things are an encouragement to you.  Though there is a degree of sharpness in the way I write, it is my hope that you know it comes from a heart of love for you.

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

In closing;   God has provided everything I had need of and having been encouraged I am confident as I move on in answering His Call.     Your prayers, support and encouragement are highly regarded.  Until next week, God willing I hope to write to you again.

Albuquerque, NM 2013

Albuquerque, NM 2013

Leaving Santa Fe having enjoyed the scenery little did I know that greater vistas were just ahead in Albuquerque?  Before I could jump right in I had to get settled and write about the prior stop.  It was Tuesday evening before I would find a place to call home here.  Thanks to First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho.

Wednesday evening and Thursday I went looking for places to focus on sharing the gospel. So it was Downtown proper from about 4:30 to 9pm. talking one on one with some who did not believe and with others who believed we discussed the importance of following the Lord in our daily lives.  All in all it was a great evening so that the few contentious remarks quickly faded away. Praise God!

Then on Friday, I went to the foothills of the Sandia Mountains, stood on a rock and preached the gospel in a small park along the scenic trail route.  When I decided to do this I took my camera to make a video.  The reason I did this was so I could review to learn what I need to improve on and second so you may see how the Lord is growing me in the Faith.  Well I set the camera down hoping it was right and by the time I stood up on the rock I was a little shaken as you may notice in the first couple minutes but after that it was on.  Check it out here:

http://youtu.be/LFVKyT5_rww

It was such a blessing to me and of the few people who gathered no one left while I spoke. Later when I viewed the video I found that it stopped recording because the battery went out so that is why the closing plea is not complete and it did not capture the comments of those who spoke to me afterwards. I did learn a couple things from this.  Though the audience was below me as I was on an incline standing on a rock I think that I looked toward the camera too much.  Secondly I think God has given me a passion that comes across well with hearers at least for that time.  I must admit this was easier to do here before a few people as opposed to doing so in a bustling urban setting.  But all things are possible with God and even if I’m by myself I believe God is going to grant the boldness that I may do this soon in a bustling urban setting.  Please continue praying for me in this regard because your prayers have already been answered in so many ways along this Journey to date.

Saturday was a day of making rounds to stop here and there responding to those who were taken by the Cross and the graphics on the truck.  While at Panera I met some dear friends who love the Lord.  We had a great time of fellowship encouraging one another and they invited me to go with them to Sunday service.  Meet Daniel, Andrew and Shannon.

Meet Daniel, Andrew and Shannon

Meet Daniel, Andrew and Shannon Thanks it was great meeting you this side of eternity! Agape

Sunday morning I went to meet my new friends for the early service at Sagebrush Community Church Riverside Campus.  The Worship was sweet, the message strong and it was great to see my friends on more time this side of eternity.  Afterwards, I made ready and went for a Sunday drive.  Around, up, up and up the ram went until the heights of more than 10, 000 feet were reached! There on the Sandia Crest I stood looking out over thousands of square miles of God’s creation.  Awe inspiring yes along with which came the realization of me being very tiny.  But in that moment came security by way of realizing that the Greatness of God who created all things and who holds all things together is the One who thought so much of tiny little me and all the tiny people of the world, that He came to be like one of us with the express purpose to go the way of the Cross, to be crucified by tiny evil men and even more to be crushed by His own fierce, holy wrath as payment for sin!  Hallelujah!  O’ God who am I that You are mindful of me?  What Love is this that You laid down your life for me?  I could no longer stand but to my knees, with hands lifted and I praised Him who died for me and rose again! Hallelujah!

.

My soul longs, yes, even faints

My soul longs, yes, even faints
For the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. (Ps 84:2)

So at the heights I praised and prayed to the Lord my God! Then I was blessed to go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is Lord!

One young man I met was from Norway and he was pleased to hear the gospel.  Later, I met a Pager and Jenny from Santa Fe who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.  We had a great time of fellowship and prayer on the heights! (17 degrees and high winds could not prevail against the praises of God’s people)

My time in Albuquerque seemed to go fast and my experiences in the State of New Mexico have been enriched.  As I get further away from my hometown family and friends the Lord has so graciously provided.  This week as in others past I have connected with more of my family in the Lord and instead of saying goodbye I say; “God Bless You until I may see you all again”.  Amen

Until next week God willing, I will write you about the week of the crucifixion and the resurrection 2013.  The week has already begun in Las Cruces, NM.

Amarillo, Texas 2013

Amarillo, Texas 2013

Finishing the week in Amarillo completes my journey in the State of Texas. Reflecting on the events of Houston, Austin and Dallas Texas left something to be desired.  There were precious moments in each town, like in Houston when brethren came together to preach the glorious gospel of God.  Meeting and enjoying fellowship is so dear to me.

My last day in Dallas brought trial that indeed tested my faith and made me so weak.  But God brought me through it and strengthened me.  Monday afternoon I set out for Amarillo which was about a 7 hour journey.  Along the way I appreciated driving for miles seeing very little development and traffic.  This brought calmness to my weary body and mind.  So I enjoyed chasing the sun for about four hours.

Chasing the sun between Dallas and Amarillo, Texas by hiscall888 2013

Chasing the sun between Dallas and Amarillo, Texas by hiscall888 2013

Then the darkness came, the wind began to forcefully blow and the next two hours was like a wrestling match.  Something darted out in front of the truck and after realizing that it was tumble weed I caught my breath. At about 9:30 pm I arrived in Amarillo where the temperature was 33 degrees with 40 mph winds!  When I left Dallas it was 86 degrees and calm. I wrote most of this to show how God blessed me to continue along the journey just a few hours after the most agonizing time in my life.

On Tuesday morning I met with Bruce who is the director of facilities at First Baptist Church in Amarillo.  I was provided a safe place to park with electricity. Yes! It had been three weeks since I had that luxury and some of that time I was not well. Praise God!  This was the beginning of many blessings in Amarillo, Texas.  Like when I went to Chick File where the employees were quick to express their love for JESUS!  This was the first response like this along the journey and throughout the week I enjoyed spending time there. Another blessing happened outside of the Wal-Mart.  I had been inside a few minutes and then going outside I saw that there were several people looking at the Cross and taking pictures. As you may imagine the opportunity to minister was tops and the same happened three different days at this Wal-Mart.  All of this brought back memories I have of the Wal-Mart in Minot, North Dakota.

Then the most encouraging experience of the week in Amarillo was meeting Brother, Randy Boehmer. Randy is on a journey to share “JESUS Saves” along America’s highways and byways.  I heard about Randy from someone that was standing in line to order food.  The guy in line had a pleasant demeanor, so I asked “what is the hope that is within you?”  From there I would find out that he is a believer and then he told me about a man traveling to share the gospel and where I could find him.  Of course I was excited so straightway I went to find him. About that time a light show began in the sky, the winds blew, the rain was coming and I saw Randy’s ring out in the field. I drove out to meet Him and we spent a few minutes together before Randy had to go batten down the hatches.  We agreed to meet Sunday afternoon so we could talk about the Lord.

Saturday I made the rounds again; Chick filet, Wal-Mart and the Mall parking lot.  It’s so cool that when people gathered around the Cross in parking lots that no one said you need to leave.

Sunday morning I enjoyed worship service at First Baptist Church of Amarillo.  Then I was off to fellowship with Brother Randy.  It was cold and windy, I sat down next to the woodstove in Randy’s place and the aroma of bacon set the stage for a most memorable time of fellowship.  Maybe I should have said set the stagecoach in instead of set the stage, but that wouldn’t be correct either.  Okay, I have held you in suspense as long as I could.  Randy’s rig is a Covered Wagon drawn by a team of mules. Yes that right, “Covered Wagon drawn by a team of Mules!”  The sign on the wagon reads “JESUS SAVES Ask Him.”   Well since the “Covered Wagon” is out of the bag take a look for yourself;

Randy Boehmer's rig JESUS Saves! Amarillo, TX March 3, 2013

Randy Boehmer’s rig JESUS Saves! Amarillo, TX March 3, 2013

Yes, what a sight to see and maybe more incredible was the time of fellowship we enjoyed. Earlier I wrote about sitting by the wood stove and the smell of bacon; that’s because Randy has done a remarkable job of outfitting the wagon.  The woodstove never goes out and cooking is no problem.  Then there are two solar panels mounted on top of the wagon that produce electricity for lights, a laptop and other small devices.  So while it was blustery outside we were warm and I enjoyed a couple plates of hot beans with turkey sausage, bacon and other seasonings.  My Dad is going to be upset that I didn’t send some home.

There is so much to write about our time together but I will touch on just a couple more.  Part of Randy’s testimony and one most notable event happened while he and others where going through the material belongings of a deceased loved one.  Certain comments were made and God really opened Randy’s eyes about worldliness. Meaning all is vanity i.e. the material treasures of man come to nothing and men striving in worldly ventures come to nothing as well.  Randy testified how God saved him and about the process of preparing to go.  That is to go: laying up treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not corrupt and destroy.  Randy sold his home and most all his possessions.  A large portion of the proceeds went to pay for the mules which pull the “JESUS Saves” wagon.  Randy tells of how God has provided everything he has needed and not just for him but for the team of mules as well.

You may read more stories about Randy at this his Facebook page Randy Boehmer, travelin’ for Jesus.  Or just Google; Randy Boehmer

As you may imagine I was greatly blessed, encouraged and humbled through our time of fellowship.

I think a fitting title to this particular story could be; “The Virginian and The Cowboy for JESUS meet in Amarillo, Texas 2013.”

In closing I will make a few final points.  Texas with the few noted exceptions seemed distant to the cross.  In Dallas 14 of the last 24 hours were the most agonizing of my life.  But God kept me through it all.  Even so I was drained because since I was with the brethren preaching the gospel in Houston, I could not find anyone to partner with in ministry.  Then because of the medical issue the night before and facing a three hundred mile drive to a town that I knew no one in was a bit scary.  So I arrive in Amarillo, where it is literally flat lands, dusty, windy and barren of greenery.  But God has awed me again!  God showed up when I was dry and in a dry place!  From the first encounter to the last while in Amarillo, God poured out the rain!

Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary. (Psalm 68:9)

O Dear God,

Thanks for getting me to Amarillo safe!

Thanks for providing a place to park with electricity at First Baptist Church of Amarillo!

Thanks for every encouragement and the opportunities to minister at Chick Fila, Wal-Mart and The Mall!

Thanks for the sweet fellowship with Brother Randy Boehmer!

Thanks for taking away the pain when I prayed that Saturday night in Dallas!

Thanks for all those who have and continue to support me by prayer, encouragement and in giving.

Thanks for keeping me that I may go to the next stop along; The Journey 50 Sates One True Story JESUS!    Amen

From Santa Fe, New Mexico,

It has been a delight to write you boasting in God’s goodness towards me.  My prayer is that God will make His manifest presence all the more known to each of you. The scriptures that come to mind concerning you in regard to this are:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.  (Matthew 7:7-8)

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (1 John 5:14-15)

Looking unto the time when together we may rejoice in the presence of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.  “JESUS Christ the LORD!”

Dallas, Texas 2013

Maybe I had grand expectations about Dallas because of how it’s been portrayed in the media.  But the memories of the week there are not so grand after all.  I believe some of it has to do with what I’m looking for. That is I hope to meet others who are excited about JESUS.

Tuesday evening I went to the mall, it was pretty upscale and after walking around a little while I sat down and started writing.  This is what I wrote:

Weep and howl O’ you rich man for the misery that is about to befall you.  You have worshipped man and man’s manipulation of the very elements which I created and set before you.  Yet there is neither abiding value nor life to be found in all of the worldly treasures.

O’ I would that you had praised The LORD Your GOD, but you have not!  You have forgotten that I AM the One who gave you the power to obtain wealth.

O’ little man what shall become of you and all your riches.  Have they provided for your eternal soul?  Surely, I say unto you they have not!  But they will testify against you on The Day of Judgment!

O’ little man, what shall you answer on the Terrible Day of LORD?  But I say you shall not speak one word.

O’ little man, listen to ME!  Repent of all your wickedness!  MY Wrath is even now upon your head!  Repent that you may receive mercy and pardon for all your wickedness.

O’ little man, look unto the Cross!  Look unto MY Only Begotten SON hanging upon the Cross! Look unto HIM who was slaughtered for the sin of the world!

O’ little man, can you see Him on the Cross?  I say unto you, Look!  Can you see the slaughtered Lamb hanging on the Cross?

O’ little man, if you can see the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world; then fall down and Worship Him!  Stay down and Worship Him who bleed and died for you!  Worship Him I say!

O’ little man can you not even speak?  What then is your treasure?

O’ little man, soon and very soon your life shall be required of you and I will do unto you according to the treasure of your heart.   Amen.

Pretty heavy stuff I know but let me tell you that “David Banton” was one like them who worshipped things and not the One who created them!  Let me ask you: Can you look unto the Cross and see Jesus? Do you esteem Jesus as your greatest treasure?

GOD or Gold? The answer is in your heart!

GOD or Gold? The answer is in your heart!

Wednesday was a slow day and I was not feeling well so that night I asked God to renew me as I slept.  Thursday afternoon while at the Laundromat, I noticed a man reading scripture.  When I was close enough, I could see that He was reading in the book of Leviticus.  So I engaged him in a conversation and what a blessing this man was to me.  I was built-up in the faith, encouraged and enriched in the Word.  Upon parting I was confident that Brother Lincoln Allen and I would meet again in glory.

Friday I drove to downtown Fort Worth to fly the banner of Christ and then back to Dallas in time to get caught in traffic.  At times I like to raise one of the props in the back of the truck.  I hoped to do that Friday and Saturday but I was without strength.

Sunday morning I enjoyed Worship Service at Grace Bible Church in Dallas.  Later I had the pleasure to meet and thank Pastor David Wilson of Greater Cornerstone Baptist Church for allowing me to park at their church. Afterwards I laid everything down in the ministry trailer preparing to leave early so I could travel 3 hours Sunday and the other 3 hours Monday morning to my next stop along the journey.  About 2pm I filled the gas tank and grabbed a sandwich to go.  Then 2:15pm marked the beginning of agony that I will never forget. I was driving, had taken two bites of the sandwich when intense pain hit in my lower right abdomen and knew I had to go to the hospital right then.  I called my friend Kris and asked him to find the VA hospital for me.  Kris sent me the address, there was a 20 minute drive ahead and the only hope I had was that God would get me there and He did.  The ER was packed and for more than four hours extreme continuous agony was my lot in the waiting area.  I could not hold any of it in and I called out to God praising Him, I cried out for Mercy from those working there but it did not come. I wanted to lay down anywhere but was told I would be arrested if I lay on the floor.  The pain was more than words can express and after some time I saw no hope at all.  I just wanted someone to say it’s going to be okay that this to would soon pass.  About 7pm they took me in and started testing, about 8pm they gave me pain medicine which brought relief from 9 to 10pm.  At 10pm I wrote this text to update Kris, “Dr. just came in CT shows kidney stone caught before it got to my kidney.  He is waiting to hear back from specialist what to do.  Since I arrived here I have had about one hour of relief, it took two shots of morphine and now it’s coming back.  I really never imagined agony like this and I think what agony the lord suffered for sin and I’m crying, I want to finish well for Him.  I pray that if I must die in pain that it will be for the Lord’s Name sake.  But no matter what The Lord has saved me.  Agape

So, at 10pm the pain started again and I was scared really scared.  I began to pray that God would take the pain from me, but before I finished I knew that I did not believe it would be done.  Then, I repented of my unbelief and began praising God for who He is, for what He has done and what He has promised to do.  Straightway, God took away the pain and even until the time of this writing.  Oh’ I shall forever praise Him!    At 4:00am I was in my truck with medicine and I wrote a text to another friend Rev. Houston Franklin, “Brother, Keep praying the enemy hits hard but I am not finished until the Lord says so. Leaving Dallas Veterans ER, after 13 hours and 3 shots of morphine for a kidney stone.  I go to a dark and cold home this morning but that’s nothing compared to the hope I have unto the resurrection of eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ!  So, I go because The Battle and The Victory is The Lords.  Amen.”

The Lord saw me home safely, gave me good sleep and by 3pm Monday I was blessed to be on my way to the next stop along; The Journey 50 States One True Story JESUS!

Dallas, Texas 2013 along; The Journey 50 States One True Story JESUS!

Today I will end short of “Thanking every one of You whom I love.” But I have hope that I may write to you again in about a week.

Austin, Texas

My first impression of Austin was this is a nice looking city and the weather was great for February.

Monday evening the Lord provided a place to park at Greater Hills Baptist Church.  So, Tuesday I was off to do a little sight-seeing and spy out the land for ministry.  I really liked the Capitol Building and the downtown area.

JESUS Died and Paid for the Sin of everyone in Austin, TX But unless you believe and repent it will do you no good on The Day of Judgement.

Wednesday evening I went to get stuck in traffic so I could multitask. While others were seeing the cross lifted up and making all kinds of faces, I was memorizing scripture and practicing preaching it. I tell you again how last week in Houston I was so encouraged by the brethren who came to do street ministry there.  This week I was disappointed because there was no one to go out with.  Never the less, I prepare with the hope of being able to go to the streets and preach alone if necessary. Please be in prayer that the Holy Spirit will give me boldness to go and to fill my mouth with God’s Word that others may be saved.  Amen

Thursday, I thought it strange that I had met so few Christians.  Had I figured Texas wrong?  In Houston last week and now Austin I have not witnessed the conservative state or the Christian presence I had expected (Except the brothers that drove to Houston to share the gospel).  Several times this week, hostility and mockery were loudly heralded against the Lord Jesus Christ and His Cross.  Even personal threats directed to me and I have never seen these people before.  This one guy was too much with his mouth.  Just so you may know, I was born in the City and raised in the Country in the tradition of America past. (Discipline, Work, Honor and Respect)  After this guy yelled across the parking lot about what he was going to do to me, I turned facing him then unwrapped my sandwich and ate it.  This really made him hot especially when I ignored his threats, so he got in his car and sped away.  At the time there was nothing that I liked about this guy, I really thought he needed to be taken out behind the woodpile and after that given the gospel (Well that’s what I thought).

Austin, TX JESUS is coming in the clouds with power and great glory! JESUS died for your sin but you must repent and believe in order to be saved!

Austin, TX JESUS is coming in the clouds with power and great glory! JESUS died for your sin but you must repent and believe in order to be saved!

Friday it was time to press on!  So around and downtown the banner of Jesus Christ was flown, the gospel shared, people encouraged and prayed for.  It was much the same on Saturday downtown along Congress and 6th Street. I enjoyed “messing people up” as I call it giving away CD’s and other gifts along with the gospel. I love the expressions on people’s faces and the gratitude some express.  Giving really does bring down walls so I can share the gospel with some people one on one and others take the gospel with them.  I believe we should give the best quality gospel products as possible because I think they are less likely to be discarded.  What helps me a lot in this effort is when I go into a Christian Bookstore I look for the clearance Items. Sometimes I find discounts as much as 90% off on Music CDs, Videos, Books and so forth. For those who have handed me a few dollars or more along the Journey; “Thank You, So very much!”

Sunday morning I enjoyed the worship service at Greater Hills Baptist Church.  This week my fondest memories were of the Christians that encouraged me, all the people I met along the sidewalks and in the parking lots that I was able to talk with and pray for.  Thank you!

To everyone back home in Virginia and to those I have met abroad: Thank You for every prayer and support. Please continue praying because I’m realizing the benefits. I believe the road ahead will be rough but much more I am sure; “that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world” and “it’s no longer I who live but Christ that lives in me.”   Amen.

God willing, I’ll write to you again about this time next week.

Houston, Texas 2013

Hello Houston, Texas!  Wow, this place is ginormous.  Getting settled took until Tuesday morning when the pastor at Autumn Creek Baptist Church said yes.  I spent most of the day doing office work and getting supplies.

Wednesday evening I went to explore downtown Houston and it was something to see.  In fact the number of people rushing to and fro was a bit overwhelming.  Wondering, what’s the hope of impacting Houston for Jesus Christ?  Not long after I found what I thought was a pretty good place to start.  I pulled over parking on an overpass where I spent more than two hours. On the right and to the left this is what I saw.

The Cross lifted up in Houston, TX

Thousands filed through from the left and the right.  Many of which looked up, others pointed, some took pictures, horns blew, hands waved and some expressed hostility.  This is what they saw:

Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

The Cross lifted up in Houston, Texas 2013

Pretty cool how the Cross being lifted up provoked quite a response. For some it seemed to bring encouragement and to others conviction. What a blessing in that it took away some of the overwhelming burden I had just a few hours earlier regarding the massive size of Houston.  At about 6:15pm the traffic was thinning and the sun setting so I made ready to leave.  Looking in the mirror I saw this:

Making sure that I was okay.

The officers walked up and the one asked “what are you doing here?” My reply was simply, “I decided to pull over and park for a while.” The officer asked the same question again and my reply was the same.  The answer was true and at least I thought the motive was apparent.  While I was there I did leave the truck to walk down the ramp to take a couple of pictures. Then when I returned to the truck I acknowledged some of those waving, giving a thumb up and those blowing the horn.  Back to the officer who said, “We received a few calls from motorist that were concerned that you might jump from the overpass” so you can’t pull over here.”  I told him I did not mean to alarm anyone and that I was grateful for the concern the callers expressed for my safety.  While waiting for the license check I remember thinking that most likely the calls were prompted by the offensive nature of the Cross being lifting up before men- “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)  And thinking how the ENEMY of our souls was concerned about the cross being lifted up before men drawing them to Christ- “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:14-15)

Thursday I spent the whole day in preparation for Sharing the Gospel outside the Houston Toyota Center.  This is where the events of the 2013 NBA All-star Weekend took place.  Thursday night I wrote this and posted on my Face book page:

“Today has been spent in the Word preparing to compel men to be reconciled to God. There will be several of us going Friday and Saturday evening as people file into Houston for the NBA All-star weekend. Pray for all of us going and for those hearing the Word of the Lord. Specifically, anxiety has hit me hard today. I’ve tried to deny it and walk without showing it but its here. The Lord has been so faithful. I’m confident knowing “The Battle is the LORD’s” and that I belong to Him so I go.”

Friday afternoon about 4pm I found a great place to park in order to do ministry. This was directly across the street of the main entrance into the Toyota Center. Paying the $40 fee I parked and walked to get something to eat.

The Gospel Jesus Saves presented at The NBA Allstar Weekend 2013 Houston, TX

Then at 5:45pm I received this email: “Come move your truck now off my lot!  It will be towed in one hour. You are not advertising or spreading God’s word on my property. We will refund your $40. You have until 6:45 pm.” I thought really!  I paid the fee, was parked in the spot as directed by the attendant and the receipt was posted inside on the windshield. I did not want to move but after obtaining advice I agreed but waited to the last minute.  The owner refunded the $40 and was glad to show me the way out.  Remembering he wrote “You are not advertising or spreading God’s word on my property” I took consolation in the fact that for more than 2.5 hours the cross was lifted up on his lot and the cost of disappointment was mine to bear but only for a short time as the Lord took that burden away.

The crew of four arrived about an hour later and then during the next 3 to 4 hours the gospel was preached again, again and again.  Tracts were distributed, one on one presentation’s of the gospel and many were prayed for.  The Holy Spirit moved throughout the evening and what a sight it was to behold.  Robby, Randall, Ryan and Don were so encouraging and the Holy Spirit had His way with me like never before.  The courage to plead for men to be reconciled to God came upon me and I was eager to take hold of the microphone at every opportunity.  One incident occurred when I was preaching; a man walked up and kissed me.  I did not break stride and in fact I forgot all about it.  Later that night while the whole crew was enjoying a meal and fellowship someone brought it up. I vaguely remembered and asked them, what seemed to be his intent?  The consensus was that he was being what I call a smart-aleck trying to disrupt the message. Looking back on this it’s incredible how this happened without me being moved by it.  That’s the Holy Spirit at work.  We finished about 2am.

Saturday evening it was time for Round #2 outside of The Toyota Center.  The same guys showed up and four others joined us. The events of the previous night were indeed memorable and this night would be well marked by the working of the Holy Spirit. We all enjoyed a meal afterwards and the fellowship lasted until about 2:30 am.  Those two days were exceptional.  Considering, Thursday’s prayer request one may see that God moved to give to me my heart’s desire.  Those two days I was spent for the sake of the gospel like never before. Praise God!  Amen.

Sunday I did not awake until after 12 noon.  I do not remember how long it has been since I did not attend Sunday Service.  Considering the assembly, the service and fellowship of those two days “I am at peace.”

Memories of the week in Houston will long be dear to me. The Journey 50 States One True Story JESUS!

Memories of the week in Houston will long be dear to me.  I enjoyed meeting brethren, sharing testimonies, praying together and encouraging one another.  But an indelible mark has been left in me, by the work of the Holy Spirit and through the yielded vessels having made the choice to go for the sake of the gospel.  God has worked through each of you to encourage me and increase my faith. O how grateful I am for you all.  Until we meet again.

Back home in Virginia and throughout the country there are so many who are dear to my heart and not to write of how each and every one of you has blessed me, seems wrong.  My memory surely is inadequate and I’m thankful that God has it all on record. So, Thank You and I pray;

24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”’ (Numbers 6:24-26)   Amen.

Hoping to write to you again about this time next week,

The week in Lake Charles, Louisiana completes the 16th State along, “The Journey 50 States One True Story JESUS!”  This stop was unique in a few ways.  First of all when I arrived on Monday there was no need for me to search for a place to park and call home for the week.  You may recall that the week prior I attended the 2013 Louisiana Evangelism Conference.  There I met Brother Nathan Curtis who took interest in the mission the Lord has me on.  Nathan arranged parking at Cornerstone University in Lake Charles.  There I met the staff of the university and that of KELB radio.  Here my physical needs were taken care of right away making room for my faith to be grown in other areas.   This began Tuesday morning at 8:00am when I sat behind a microphone and in front of a camera.  Brother Nathan is a radio host for KELB radio and I was the guest speaker!   You may recall that I mentioned the following scripture in last week’s post; “I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide and I will fill it.”(Psalm 81:10)  This scripture seemed appropriate for me as I sat there in expectation that God would fill my mouth for Christ namesake.  In other words I was out of my comfort zone!  I know the Lord showed up because I didn’t freeze up and Nathan is quite the director.  In fact Nathan was like my personal public relations manager throughout the week.  He arranged an interview with the American Press and a story was printed in Saturday’s newspaper.  Wednesday afternoon I was in front of the camera again for an hour of live streaming webcast.

On Thursday I drove about an hour away to join some friends in Port Arthur, Texas to share the gospel at Mardi gra.  Getting there early I set the prop up along with a small amplifier and microphone.   When the crew arrived we all went to work, handing out tracts, one on one witnessing, praying and Brother Randall Huffman took hold of the microphone and open air preached.  This was an incredible time serving together and seeing the Lord at work in many ways.  All of this was happening in a town known for its crime.  In times like these it is just as amazing to see how God unites men with various backgrounds and brings them together by the Spirit of the Lord to serve.  Finishing, we all joined in giving thanks to God for the time we had together and prayed for those who were ministered to.

Team JESUS Saves! Port Arthur, Tx Feb. 2013 along The Journey 50 Sates One True Story JESUS!

Friday morning I was back in the broadcast studio for another hour of trusting the Lord to fill my mouth.  Just maybe I was a little more comfortable this time or was it the skill of Brother Nathan?

Saturday the main event was witnessing at the mall.  Here I go again, accepting another challenge of faith.  What I mean is, I thought of how much time I spend walking around and do not talk about the Lord!  I decided to have some lettering put on the back of my jacket; “JESUS SAVES”.  So that day I found what a burden that can be and is.  I’m thinking, what are you addicted to conflict?  Well no I do not like conflict!  However, I do want to continue growing in the faith.  It’s times like these when I feel the pressure of walking out my faith that God molds and shapes me for what’s yet ahead. I long to realize freedom from conflict and stress but it will not occur until the Lord brings the total redemption that all of creation eagerly waits.  Until then in weakness I fight against the flesh and know the Battle is the Lords.

Saturday I enjoyed having dinner at Nathan’s home along with the fellowship of many friends.  It was a homecoming of sorts for me.  As I go throughout this country it is always a delight when I meet and get to spend time with newly discovered family in the Lord.

Sunday morning I enjoyed fellowship at First Baptist Church of Lake Charles and then Worship at Ridgeway Baptist Church.

My visit in Lake Charles was a nice way to wrap up the four stops of Louisiana. Having started in the City of New Orleans then going to Baton Rouge and Lafayette I have fond memories in everyplace.  I have seen the Lord at work and have been encouraged as well.

Thank you, Brother Nathan Curtis for your diligence and to Cornerstone University for the hospitality.  Thanks to KELB radio and it’s listeners for the honor to speak out about the Lord Jesus Christ.

While making mention of a few, there are others that have no less been appreciated and all of them are a Joy to me even now as I continue The Journey 50 States One True Story Jesus!

Once again God has provided everything I had need of and having been encouraged I am confident as I move on in answering His Call.  Your prayers, support and encouragement are highly regarded.  Until next week, God willing I hope to write to you again.

This week started out with a bang!  Wait not that kind of Bang.  The first person that I spoke with in Lafayette told me about a two day Evangelism Conference Sponsored by the Louisiana Baptist Convention and that it started in about 45 minutes!  I jumped into the truck and straightway went to First Baptist Church of Lafayette.  I arrived just in time to hear the first speaker and the house was packed.  I think I was beside myself!  But since I don’t know exactly what that term means, I was excited!  Over the course of two days and evenings I heard many speakers from around the country and I enjoyed the entertainment of a few well-known artists.  What’s more I met some very dear Christians with whom the fellowship was sweet.  And a couple of contacts were made that I believe will bear fruit next week.

On Wednesday, I had time to catch my breath and begin preparing for the week here in Lafayette.  First thing was to write about the week in Baton Rouge and then go spy out the land for ministry.

Thursday I began the day by going to The Mall of Acadiana.  There was a man in uniform waiting to speak with me when I got out of the truck. He said I want you to know that you are welcome here!  I thought wow really?  My reply, I appreciate hearing that because that’s not usually the case.  He said I know and I’ve wondered for a while why I’m here.  Then he said again, you are welcome here and I do not want you to be surprised when you have others come up to you and say the same thing as you travel.  God has people everywhere that you will go.  Then he asked, you know persecution will come along the way?  I replied, Yes the Lord said it would be that way and I believe God has prepared me and will keep me.  He said very well, smiled and walked away.

I spent the rest of the day there sharing the gospel inside and out in the parking lot.  I believe this was the most productive time of ministry at a Mall to date.  I cannot recall a single time that I was not acutely conscious of every move I made.  Most of which was because I usually park up front near the main entrance of the mall and I have seen the impact the Cross and Graphics have on those who pass by.

That night I was reflecting on the day’s events and then especially on the words the security officer had spoken.  I mean He delivered the message without what I call any fanfare before during or after.  He was clear, concise and warranted confirmation that I both heard and understood what was said.  Oddly enough I did not see him again that day, all day Friday nor the short visits I made Saturday and Sunday.

Friday I went back to the place where I was welcome. One reason was to see if I might enjoy the same freedom in sharing the gospel there like the day before.  Wow, throughout the entire day the witness of Jesus Christ went fourth unimpeded.  When leaving I felt that I knew something of what it means to be spent (worn out) for the sake of the Lord Jesus Christ.  While driving home I noticed a Christian Bookstore and decided to stop (Thinking that I would just take a quick look and go because I was so tired).  But within a few minutes things would dramatically change.  There I met a dear brother and his three children and then a husband and wife all of which were attracted by the Cross on The Jesus Truck.  Their love for Jesus was so evident that everyone throughout the store could see and hear.  The Joy of the Lord was issuing forth out and through them, being expressed in the shedding of tears, testimonies, praises, words of encouragement and speaking the Word.  This happened in the middle of the store and then moved into the parking lot. The looks on the faces of onlookers seemed to be of curiosity.  It reminds me when Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another.” (John 13:35)

As for me there are a few occasions when I have no consciousness of time.  It happens during events like the above, when engaged in pure worship and when I may be fully engaged in direct prayer with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. When I finally arrived home the last two lines I wrote about today was; “Much more than I write tonight, the Lord has blessed me abundantly this day!”

Saturday I noted, while at Chick Fila the hood graphic drew four young men. One of them objected saying it looked like I was being critical.  But after a few minutes of conversation He apologized saying I want to follow Jesus but do not want to be called Christian based on what I’ve seen of others.  Ouch! (A sad and most probable, true story).  Let us be all the more diligent to live beyond reproach. Amen.  I gave this young man a cd of the gospel and praise & worship cd.  He hugged and thanked me. (The one who came critical left a friend) The Spirit of the Lord was there!  Praise God!

Now, Saturday evening there was a Mardi gras parade downtown from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  I made the Jesus Truck parade ready hoping to find a way to join in. Soon I found that would not be the case and later I understood why it was best that I didn’t get in.  Then on to plan B which entailed parking two blocks away in the restaurant and bar district. After having enjoyed red beans and sausage I walked to catch a glimpse of the parade.  I was stunned at what I saw!  Both sides of the street were lined with people who were reaching up, cheering, begging hysterically.  These actions were directed to men and woman who had exalted themselves as marked by crowns and other adornments to suggest deity. The whole thing was blasphemous.  Again both sides of the street were lined with people who were reaching up, cheering, begging hysterically and for what a string of beads or a plastic cup!  All of which depended on the mercy and sovereignty of those passing above them.  I tell you that I was shocked by the idolatry, wickedness and blasphemy.

What about Psalm 81:10 Where God says, I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide and I will fill it.

So I went to the truck, hoisted a prop in the back, lite it up and waited.  When the parade was over I spoke with a few people that came my way and closed for the day.

Hell's taking prisoners!

Christians Engage! Hell’s taking prisoners!

Earlier in the week I met a young man who invited me to come to the church he attended.  Sunday morning I went there and it was difficult for me to stay until it was over.  The events of the past 18 hours had taken a toll and I was ready for rest and to renew my mind.

What a roller coaster ride it was during the week in Lafayette.  There was so much I Praise God for!  But as for the stain of sin leaving it’s ugly mark I pray Lord Jesus Come, but Lord not my will rather Your will be done.  Amen

I close this week’s post a little different than normal.  I find that in the process of writing I bear some of the associated emotions and this can be tiring.  But please know that it is not a burden to me to do this but rather it is a labor of Love that you may in some measure be encouraged.

I thank God and you all for every encouragement you have been and continue to be for me.  Until next week God willing, I may finish in the State of Louisiana and write to you again.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana 2013

The second of four stops in Louisiana is complete. But first I should make mention about the lapse in time from my last post:  After completing the prior stop in New Orleans, I flew to my home to Virginia for a week.  There I visited with friends, family and completed medical appointments.  All went well, except that it was hard to say goodbye again. This as much the case with my extended family in Christ as my biological family. You know who you are and that I love you!

Now, here are a few details that come to mind while in Baton Rouge, LA.  Arriving safe on Monday the Lord provided a secure place to park the trailer at Istrouma Baptist Church.  When I say secure I mean fenced in and gate locked.

Tuesday while on the freeway I saw the car in front of me hit the wall, bounce across a couple of lanes and come back in front of me before coming to a stop.  The traffic was heavy and a tractor trailer was behind me.  The parts of the car flew everywhere and looked as if it was in slow motion.  Praise God that no one was hurt!   The young lady driving the car was understandably shaken.  After calling 911 I could not help but to hold and comfort her.  Once the emergency personnel arrived I said goodbye.  As I reflected on this I was reminded of the frailty and brevity of human life.  I mean this young lady could have died that day and what if she did not know Jesus as her Lord and Savior?  Kind of adds urgency to sharing the gospel doesn’t it?

On Wednesday, I met a Louisiana State Policeman. When I was being pulled over, I remember thinking Lord what is this about?  The Trooper walked up and said, “When you went by, I told my wife on the phone, I have to go talk to whoever is driving the truck with the cross on it.”  This Homicide Investigator told me how he had wondered if people who had just minutes to live could call on the name of the Lord and be saved.  Then He shared how God had saved Him in such an urgent time in His life.  He told how the Lord said that his time to die had not come.  It is amazing to me how gracious the Lord is and what a treasure the testimonies are to me of men and woman whose lives are forever changed!  Before the trooper left he said, “If there is anything you need while in Louisiana call me.”  I think it goes without saying that I was glad to be pulled over by him.  Thank you Brother!

Moving on to Thursday:  Remember that when I was in New Orleans the ministry trailer started to leak water and the brake warning light came on in the truck?  So, I went to get an estimate for the brakes and it was; $425.00 Ouch!  It had been about 25 years since I worked on a vehicle but I thought I would try again.  A good part of Friday and Saturday was spent on replacing the brakes and addressing other maintenance issues with the truck and trailer.  Saturday morning I felt like I got hit by a truck but was able to finish.  On the brakes alone I saved more than $325.00!  Praise God!  As for the leak in the roof the RV repairman tightened four screws with the hope that will stop the leak.  Otherwise it will cost $300.00 the remove and reseal the A/C unit in the roof.  Worst case scenario is that it may need to be done but I saved that much doing the brakes.

Along: The Journey 50 Sates One True Story JESUS!

On Sunday I enjoyed worshiping the Lord at Istrouma Baptist Church.  Thank you Istrouma for the love and every coutesy that you all extended to me.  In the afternoon I made one more round through Baton Rouge flying the banner of the Lord Jesus Christ.  While at the capitol building I enjoyed meeting other believers. Having been encouraged by them I left to go and prepare to move on to the next stop along; The Journey 50 States One True Story JESUS!

To Close:

I thank God for His faithfulness past, present and future for saving and keeping me.

Dear Brethren,  Gratitude abides deep in my heart towards you all for every prayer, encouragement and support!  James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.  This is how I see all my dearly beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ!” Therefore I thank God for You!

Finally, May you grow in the Graces of God by realizing the Truth of His Word, the Power of His Spirit and the Love of Jesus Christ all the more each and every day!

New Orleans, LA 2013

While I was glad to finish in Mississippi, I was not so sure that New Orleans should be one of my stops in the State of Louisiana. As the time drew nearer I had peace in going so I did.  Here’s a little about what happened there:

It was not long after I arrived that I was provided a great place to call home base for the week.  This was courtesy of Celebration Church.  The parking lot was well lite and security cameras everywhere. So right away, one burden was no more.  Later, I was glad to find a Panera Bread close by (There were none in MS) and then a Lifeway Christian Bookstore.  Before the day was over I was invited to attend a four session apologetics course at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary!  Wow things were looking pretty good until I discovered I had a leak in the ministry trailer. Then the check engine and brake warning lights came on in the truck. That could be interpreted as the devil was trying to ruin my day.  But I don’t believe the devil can cause the roof to leak and with 81,000 miles on my truck it just might be time for brake pads.  So, a bucket caught the leak and then off to school.  I loved the way they started with praise and worship. The guest speakers were outstanding.  After a couple of visits I was thinking how good it would be to go back to school.  Then again, maybe that was in part due to me feeling young again.

Wednesday evening I decided to skip class to attend the Worship Service at Celebration Church (So don’t send money for school).  The Worship and praying one for another was rejuvenating

.

New Orleans, LA 2013

Thursday, I journeyed downtown and through the infamous French quarter.  The response was mixed from salutes, thumbs up, jeers, mockery and so on.  The one I remember most is hearing a woman say to her friend “He needs some beads” (pointing at the cross) and she said it again.  I thought; Beads Really? Christ has already been adorned with beads. Jesus wore beads of Sweat and beads of Blood before and during the Crucifixion. Christ did this for you, your friend and for me, so we could be saved!  What beads then? No Way!  Looking back I think it would have been right to say it then, but I did not.  The illustration is pretty vivid.  Maybe I will use it at a speaking engagement?

Friday night I met up with Raven Ministries to go into the French quarter with the gospel.  Looking to get firsthand knowledge of what that looks like.  We met in a home to engage in prayer and worship.  The goal was the emptying of self and the plea unto God, biding the Holy Spirit to come, fill and have His Way in each of us.  We overloaded the van and others joined later.  Upon arrival the Cross was hoisted and the precession to the target began.  There in the middle of the street a young man began to preach. Everyone else scattered to engage with those who stopped or paused at this spectacle. During the better part of three hours 4 or 5 different preachers took turns compelling people to come to Christ.  While the rest were at work as the Holy Spirit lead.

Bourbon Street New Orleans 1-11-2013

During this event I personally engaged both numerically and qualitatively more people for the sake of Christ than ever before (as far as I know).  What I witnessed was God working through ordinary people to impact many with the compassion of Christ.  Through the preaching of the Gospel, hearing testimonies of Gods power in transforming lives, seeing tears on both sides of the isle, words of encouragement and people praying in the streets for one another.  All this happened in a place which is probably written off by most.  As if the people here are beyond help.  I know, because I was one of them.  But now my eyes have been opened because I have seen firsthand that not everyone is totally intoxicated.  Now I have looked into the eyes of hurting, searching and broken hearts.  I cannot just pass them by and thus deny the Power of God to save them.  After all, I know the One of whom there Heart desires and He has come! He has come! He is here!

 His name is JESUS!  Amen.

Saturday, I was low keyed because I was spent and my voice was raspy. In the evening I enjoyed the worship service at Celebration Church.  Here again I was refreshed.  Thanks, Celebration Church for your part in making the week in New Orleans more than pleasant.

In appreciation, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary it was an honor to be with you.

Special thanks go out to Raven Ministries International for an awe inspiring experience.

To all the Saints, Please join with me in prayer: Pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. (Matt 9:38)  Consider how you may be one of those who go.  Please let me know how I may be in prayer for you.  I desire to be a source of encouragement to you along the narrow way.  Thanks for all that you do on my behalf.
